It wasn’t a moment, or an event per say. It just kind of… happened.
Bret and Kari had been friends since their first year at Arizona State University. But it wasn’t until Bret graduated and Kari was finishing up her last semester that they discovered a budding romance. It was a fling. It had to be. Bret was starting a life in Arizona, and Kari would jet back to Los Angeles once her studies concluded.
As expected, Kari left for California. And although it was hard to part, there weren’t expectations of a serious relationship ensuing. Low and behold, months of long phone calls and a visit back to the desert changed it all. They lived long distance for over a year, until their hearts couldn’t handle any more, and Kari moved back to Arizona.
So, it wasn’t an exact moment, but after being together – finally in the same state with no more plans of separation – the two realized they wanted to finish out life, tied at the soul, with their best friend.
It was while Kari was cleaning at home, her hair tussled and t-shirt spotted, that Bret knelt down and asked her to be his wife. Because that’s how he loves her. In the honest, you’re-beautiful-no-matter-what way.
